We're located on Route 6A in Orleans, right next to the "Lobster Claw", just south of the light at the Stop & Shop, and definitely south of the Orleans Rotary (go all the way around and you'll be headed back).
We have a front porch where you can schmooze with other like-minded neighbors and friends, and trade stories, compare equipment and find out where the best birding sites are. When you're done on the porch, come on inside and check out the board by the front door. Here you might find just what you need to plan your next expedition. Local events of interest to us folks are posted here. Recent sightings, tides, weather, and general trends (migration season is still on) are also tacked up here.
When you're ready to think about that latest piece of equipment you really shouldn't be without, see what we've stocked just for you. Need a gift for the folks back home? You'll have plenty of options to choose from. Don't forget to ask for help when you need it. Our very knowledgable staff can answer your questions, and... if you tell them a joke, they'll give you a pencil!!! For those of you who can't wait to get here, call us for a copy of our catalog. So pick up the phone, or stop by the next time you're on Cape Cod. We're really looking forward to meeting you!
Yes,
it is finally here, twelve years in the making, the first Bird Watcher's General Store catalog. Sorry it has taken so long, but twelve years is "warp speed" for Cape Cod (try to get a plumber). I know most people will say, "What, no color pictures? But Chickadees are black and white and we still love them. Just look at the catalog as an imagination exercise or contact Ted Turner and he'll colorize it for you.
To get your 40-page extravaganza, just pick up the phone and give us a call at 1-800-562-1512 (or dial the cute catch phrase 800-TXB-1U1C).
The Bird Watcher's General Store opened in May 1983 and as far as we knew then, we were the first store of its type in the world. Today, even though there are many stores that have copied our ideas (just ask 'em), and some stores are even franchised (boring!!!!), we are still probably the only true birding store in the world. We don't sell bat houses, butterfly feeders or whale T-shirts. We like bats and butterflies; we also like pizza and kickball but they don't belong in a birding store either.
